Last week I passed very briefly through Paris. I had a single free evening and realized that it had been thirty years since I had arrived in Paris on New Year’s Day, inspired by Hemingway’s famous claim that “to be a young man in Paris is a movable feast”. In 1977, my timing appeared off: my feast was rain-soaked and bitter cold. I headed to point zero — the official center of the city in front of the Cathedral Notre Dame. Last Friday, I retraced my steps.
